Evolution -> Aham Brahmasmi

This is my friend, DJ. I have known this genius for about 14 years now. And he wrote this incredible post "Aham Brahmasmi“. And that made me think, no surprises there. :) All I do is waste my time thinking on everything under the sun except those subjects, the diligent study of which might bring me some moolah. :D Anyways, without much ado, what I thought of was Evolution.

The very concept of evolution is so beautiful, bold, brilliant, and terrifying. It is in sync with the ubiquitous cyclic universal phenomenon around, Change. Evolution is a direct product of change. And change, is brought about by Evolution. They are so symmetrically in tune, balancing each other. And I call evolution terrifying, because things can go horribly wrong as well. When the change brought about is disharmonious, like a self destructive defense mechanism, evolution leads to oblivion. Remember Dinosaurs? And Evolution is in the Blueprint of this Universe, intricately embedded. And by Evolution , I am not just implying the biological changes that the millions of species have gone though , but the process in which everything passes by degrees to a different stage (especially a more advanced or mature stage) . The eternal cycle (my favourite phrase) of birth-death, creation-preservation-destruction of every entity composed of what we perceive as matter, which, I think is one of innumerable iterations of the process; one of the uncountable spokes in the wheel, of Evolution. That is the real Intelligent Design. Not the creationist bunkum about a creature bearing the appearances of a man, in a fit of benevolence, deciding to make mankind out of clay or whatever it was. Moving on , we , our species , have climbed quite a few rungs on the evolutionary ladder, from one celled organisms , to , well , I don't know how to describe the complex organism we are now . It is the world's best machine. It is perfect. It has a BRAIN! And what lies ahead? What do we evolve to now? A super-species, taller, stronger, faster, maybe smarter? Maybe, maybe not. What I think is that, the next evolutionary hurdle, for a human who is truly evolved so far, would try to grapple with the Reality. The Real Reality. To escape the pull of this Virtual World. The moth and the Maya. The delusion we call Worldly Life. To achieve a state of super consciousness, where we resonate with the universal spirit. Where you, in not a very human way, realize, that you are the universal spirit. There is no I or You. Where you become the part of the giant web of pure energy permeating the entirety.

That is what "Aham Brahmasmi" is all about, I guess. That is what I understood of it. That seems like the ultimate Evolutionary jump to me. And what happens next? I think that state would be beyond the 4 dimensions of space and time, so there would be no next. Again , just a speculation . Thank you, Dj. gave me some good food for thought. And everyone, please feel free to correct or supplement my understanding of “Aham Brahmasmi”.

Wonderful post, Kislay!

Your projection of further evoluton of humankind is very logical. A whole new dimension of evolution- very believable.

You , in turn, have given us food for thought!

I think we are going back in terms of evolutionary cycle. The philosophical concepts were explored during the Vedic times by our ancestors, and we are only trying to explore the essence of what has been already stated! We are sadly, not taking the understanding forward. So much for material slavery! If you have time, please read this post on Advaita and Aham BramhasmiDestination Infinity

Evolution is beautiful and it is because of evolution we have learnt to adapt and survive...That is why I don't like religious fundamentalists who do not accept that life and religion are both dynamic...

Beautiful post once again. Profound. Evolution/Creation call what you might...is awe inspiring. And yes I believe that the road of super consciousness leads to what is called salvation or Moksha.

beautiful post Kislay...Aham Brahmasmi is something that I have heard and read about off and on..but my knowledge of it is limited..this post was amazing in that it answered quite a few questions...I am still trying to understand Aham Brahmasmi...

Kislay, is it not strange that while every living being evolves, it is only humans, despite their brain, perhaps because of it, who can actually de-evolve?

Think about it. That is what has been happening along the dimension that you are talking of, for a long time. Was it foreseen by evolved souls who called this period of de-evolution and regression Kalyuga?

"aham brahmasmi" The concept is spiritual and beautiful.

The belief that each one of us is a Brahman (not the caste), the one who knows the ultimate reality of life.

I don't believe that we are losing anything in this new era. We adapt as time goes by which is also essential. The ones who gets stuck in the past are the one who never get actual meaning of these spiritual discourses.

good one. dude.... I am confused :)

I loved this line:
Where you, in not a very human way, realize, that you are the universal spirit. There is no I or You. Where you become the part of the giant web of pure energy permeating the entirety.

For me, "aham brahmasmi" means that God is in all of us!!!! :) yes, the brain is also going to evolve... dont know what will happen then !!!!

'The very concept of evolution is so beautiful, bold, brilliant,... Evolution is a direct product of change. And change, is brought about by Evolution'I agree!! Evolution is why we still exist :)
Unfortunately sometimes we try to stop this evolutions, specially of cultures and languages, and whenever that is done, the culture becomes stagnant.
Languages also must be allowed to evolve or we will need special laws to protect them :(

really well written kislay....loved the way u correlated evolution & "Aham Brahmasmi".....!!!!

hey u knw wht, thr r few scientist who refute the darwin's theory of evolution. one such scientist happens to be Michael A. Cremo, who wrote a book "Human Devolution- A vedic alternative to darwin's theory"...whr he proposes with sound documented evidence(which happened to be suppressed or filtered by scientific fraternity) tht primitive humans existed on the planet fr millions of years rather than 2-3 millions, wch completely contradicts Darwinian theory, and also implies tht we did nt evolve frm apes(homo sapiens, the popular belief)...so tht leaves us with an anomalous question, whr did we come from....??? he says : "We did not evolve up from matter; instead we devolved, or came down, from the realm of pure
consciousness, spirit,".....
read the book if u gt a chance.....GOOD one..!!!

actually Michael A. Cremo came to IITD to gv a talk ...n i even interacted wth hm personally later. he gave some real sound & compelling proofs bt somehow i am nt convinced abt the whole theory and feel its flawed in some respects, bt it sure forces u to reconsider everything...!!!

nothng mch though....it ws after the talk tht i approached hm, i asked hm two questions basically, i asked hm if humans always existed on the planet then wht abt other beings, does the Darwinian theory holds tyrue fr them and second question ws abt consciousness and wht manifests it ..?? bt his answer some hw did nt convince me enough....tht cld be bcz of shortage of time probably...!!! bt hs talk ws awesome....
